Helpful Links for Parents of Preemies

We highly recommend Preemies: The Essential Guide for Parents of Premature Babies (Paperback) by Dana Weschler Linden, Emma Trenti Paroli, and Mia Weschsler Doron M.D. This book was a tremendus help and explains things in a simple and easy to understand fashion.  Buy it from any Barnes and Nobles.

Infant Reflux Disease is common in premature infants.  Lily is still on medication to help control reflux.  We are still hoping she outgrows it.  There was a point where we and her doctors were considering surgery to control her reflux.  Thankfully, the medicine helps and we were able to avoid the fundoplication surgery.  The link to this website contains very valuable information on reflux and GIRD.

Parent-2-Parent has a parent's forum on reflux.  My husband found this site very useful in making our decision whether or not to have the fundoplication surgery.  We decided against it, and fortunately, Lily has been doing very well on medicine.

Kid's Health  covers many conditions, experiences, and terms you will run into during a stay in the NICU.   The Kid's Health website also has an excellent related articles page with more information to help you with understanding what's going on in the NICU. Kid's Health Related Articles

Neonatology.org has a very informative resource page which lists conditions and disorders with links which explain them.

AAPI-online has articles written in easy to understand language regarding conditions and ailments which you may hear referred to while in the NICU.  Also a good resource for information.

Babycenter.com has a recent article on SIDS worth reading.  Published 01-31-07.

I was asked to add a link to Cerebral Palsy information, and found the March of Dimes Cerebral Palsy page had what I believe to be the best information.

RSV I can't stress enough how important it is to protect your baby against RSV.  This website spells out what RSV is, whose at risk, what the symptoms are, and ways to prevent it.

Celiac Disease is a rare but extremely serious digestive disease where the protein gluten cannot be tolerated and if eaten, causes damage to the small intestine.

Sure Foods Market has Gluten & Wheat-Free, Casein & Dairy-Free, Soy-Free, Egg-Free, Corn-Free, Nuts-Free, and Peanut-Free foods and food products for people with severe allergies.

Retinopathy of Prematurity or disease of the retina, still affects many preemies of extremely low birthweight (below 2.6 pounds).  This site explains the condition.

Glossary of NICU Terms Please see our Glossary of NICU Terms for more information on specific phrases or conditions you may hear or experience in the NICU.

Cutting out the middle man--- Here are links to products not covered in our store because the manufacturer is willing to sell to the public and you can buy the items cheaper ordering directly from the manufacturer's website, or a larger store has a better bargain for you:

Enfamil Home Delivery  If you choose to formula feed, Enfamil formula and products can be delivered directly to your home from this website.  Remember to check with your baby's doctor as to what products are best for his/her individual needs.

Save up to 70% on mobility equipment at SpinLife.com  Spinlife guarantees the lowest price on the web for mobility equipment, including wheelchairs, scooters, and walkers. Also has free shipping on all orders over $50.

Everything For Baby at Walmart.com Sometimes it's just cheaper to shop at Walmart.  Why not take advantage of it?

Amby Baby has a hammock bed for colicy, preemie, or babies with reflux.  This item is not carried in our store, but you may want to check it out.  However, the Lily referenced in the pictures is not our Lily.

Comfort First This is another superstore which carries breastpumps such as Medela, Ameda, and First Years. They also carry strollers, high chairs, bottles, and nearly everything in general you may need for Baby.  Their prices are low and shipping is free on many larger items. Another great place to look for your baby needs. I shopped here.

Child's Health and Wellness Record has a health journal and wellness record book and organizer which lets you keep all information (health, medical and educational development details) regarding your child organized and ready to take to your doctor appoints with you.  It is very thorough, yet is extremely simple to use. A great resource for parents of preemies or children with other special medical needs.

We will be adding more links in the near future.
